ELMIRA BULLDOGS HANDED FIRST LOSS OF SEASON BY NY WIZARDS, 108-110 FINAL SCORE. |
'REMATCH SLATED FOR THIS SATURDAY FEBRUARY 13TH @ 7PM FROM FIRST ARENA IN ELMIRA, NY WITH NBA LEGEND DENNIS RODMAN'

In what was billed to be a premier battle between two of the leagues top and unbeaten teams lived up to the hype and then some as the Elmira Bulldogs (5-1) and New York Wizards (6-0) battled right to the end. The home team NY Wizards jumped out of the gates early led by the hot hands of Jerome Richardson (28 points), Mike Mcduffie (29 points), Anthony Cox (18 points, 15 rebounds) and Nick Carter (16 points) and took a 18 point lead midway through the first quarter before the Elmira Bulldogs stormed back.
The Elmira Bulldogs were able to cut the lead to 10 points by the end of the first quarter and dominate the second quarter to come all the way back and take a 54-51 lead into the locker room at half time. The Bulldogs run was steam headed by former Mansfield University star Brandon Lawley who had a team and personal career best 21 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Last seasons EBA MVP Aubin Scott scored 18 points while Kirk Stewart finished with 17 points 13 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Former Plattsburgh State University Star Cameron Arterberry had a huge game off the bench scoring 16 points and going 3 for 7 from 3-point range. Newcomer Sherod Harris (Brockport State University) scored 15 points and dished off a team high 6 assists. The Bulldogs also had a strong second quarter showing from Shanod "JFK" Burton who scored 8 points in the game, all of them coming in the second quarter of the game.
The Elmira Bulldogs and NY Wizards battled dead even in the 3rd quarter as the Bulldogs kept a 3 point lead going into the 4th quarter. The Bulldogs started off hot in the 4th taking a 7 point lead before the NY Wizards got red hot again to come back and take a 2 point lead 108-106 with 9 seconds left in the game. The Bulldogs took a time-out to advance the ball to mid court with a chance to tie or take the lead. The Bulldogs in bounded the basketball to Sherod Harris who looked to be run into by a Wizards player sending him 3 steps backwards with the ball in his hands, the ref instead went with a travel call. It was a crucial call in the game as if it was called a foul the Bulldogs were in the bonus and Sherod Harris would have gone to the line for 2 foul shots with a chance to tie the game and send it into overtime. After the travel call the Wizards in bounded and Bulldogs were forced to foul with the Wizards knocking down both free throws for a 110-106 lead. The Bulldogs Aubin Scott quickly went the length of the court for a 2 point layup with 1.9 seconds remaining to cut the Wizards lead to 110-108 but the Wizards were able to inbound the ball and run out the clock before the Bulldogs could commit a foul to stop the clock leading to the New York Wizards 110-108 victory.
Notable : The Elmira Bulldogs were with out the team's 1st and 2nd leading scorers with Haron Hargrave (24.3 points per game, 10.3 assists per game) currently in California finishing classes for his college degree. Hargrave is expected to fly back to the east coast for the two Dennis Rodman games at First Arena on February 12th and 13th as well as any playoff contests. Also the Elmira Bulldogs were with out the services of 6'8" 265 pound starting Center Eric Bresett (21 points per game, 9.3 rebounds per game) who sat out his 3rd consecutive game with a lower back injury and his future status remains questionable.
With the win the New York Wizards (6-0) take over sole possession of 1st place in the Eastern Basketball Alliance Northern Conference Empire Division while the Elmira Bulldogs (5-1) drop to second place.

The Elmira Bulldogs will not have to wait long for a chance at revenge as the Wizards and Bulldogs will meet again this Saturday February 13th @ First Arena in Elmira, NY with NBA legend Dennis Rodman as head coach of the hometown Bulldogs. The night before on Friday February 12th Dennis Rodman will be leading the Elmira Bulldogs in a showdown with the Garden State Rebels from First Arena.
