"SEVEN TIME EBA LEAGUE CHAMPION HARRISBURG HORIZON IS COMING TO TOWN FOR BATTLE VS. THE ELMIRA BULLDOGS"

elmiralogo.jpghorizon.gif

The last time these two teams met was last season in a regular season match up.  The game is still known as "the best EBA game ever played". With Harrisburg up by two points on the Bulldogs, 2009 EBA league MVP Aubin Scott drained a shot from the corner as time expired in regulation, his left foot was on the 3-point line and the game went into overtime.  These two teams were so evenly matched that not even one overtime could decide the outcome.  The Elmira Bulldogs eventually prevailed in double overtime by the score of 131-129 as Harrisburg Horizon big man Anthony Frazier's jumper looked good but rattled out as time expired.

"I felt bad that both teams could not walk away with a win in that game last season", stated Bulldogs head coach and general manager James R. Schutz.  "Now we get to do it all over again, luckily I have dropped 150 pounds since the last time we played, I think my heart can handle it better", joked Schutz.

The Harrisburg Horizon were one of four teams to join the Elmira Bulldogs at the 2009 EBA Final 4 last season where they fell in the semi-final match up to the eventual champion Delaware Destroyers.  Prior to last season, the Harrisburg Horizon had won a record setting seven consecutive EBA titles.

The Elmira Bulldogs have an overall franchise record of 23-6 and have won 20 of the team's last 23 games played.  The majority of the wins coming by a margin of 20 points or more.  The Elmira Bulldogs have made it to the league title game every year in the franchise's existence (2008 NPBL title game) and (2009 EBA title game).

The Harrisburg Horizon team leader is returning big man Anthony Frazier.  Frazier averaged 29 points and 11 rebounds per contest last EBA season while being named 1st team all EBA.  Frazier is one of the more impressive big men not in the NBA, in 2004, Frazier participated with the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers during NBA summer league.

The Elmira Bulldogs' team leader is Aubin Scott.  Scott was named EBA league MVP last season after he averaged 23.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists per contest.  Elmira Bulldogs' newcomer Haron Hargrave caught the eyes of many in the season opener last Saturday when he led the Elmira Bulldogs in scoring with 25 points while also dishing out 10 assists.

Tip-off for this epic battle of EBA heavyweights is slated for 7:05pm on Saturday December 19, 2009, from South Side High School in Elmira, NY.

"Last season this match up was played in Harrisburg; we are thrilled this season to have this heavyweight battle in Elmira, NY, so our fans can witness this great event", stated bulldogs head coach and general manager James R. Schutz.

The Elmira Bulldogs have served notice to the rest of the league that they are the team to beat.  The Hudson Valley Hype showed up to Elmira, NY with former NCAA D-1 star's Louie McCroskey (Syracuse University) and Gerald Carter (Marist College) but it was nowhere near enough for the star studded home town Elmira Bulldogs.

The Elmira Bulldogs jumped out early on the visiting Hudson Valley Hype and never looked back.  The Bulldogs led 31-19 after the first quarter and 65-49 at the half.  The Bulldogs looked even stronger in the second half of action en-route to a 140-103 blow out win in the team's season/home opener.

Haron Hargrave, the former NCAA D-1 standout from Sacramento State University, led the Elmira Bulldogs in scoring with 25 points while also dishing out a team high 10 assists.  2009 EBA league MVP Aubin Scott was right behind Hargrave with 23 points scored and Scott also grabbed 4 rebounds while dishing out 4 assists.  Kirk Stewart and Kenny Gethers each scored 16 points while Stewart grabbed 6 rebounds while Gethers hauled in 4 rebounds.  Elmira, NY native Eric Bresett had a strong opening night showing with 15 points scored and 5 rebounds.  Phil Valenti scored 13 points, while Mindaugus Boruta "The Lithuanian Giant" rounded out the team's 7 players scoring in double figures while he posted the 2nd team's double-double with 10 points and a team high 11 rebounds.

After the 7 double figure scoring players for the Elmira Bulldogs was Cameron Arterberry with 9 points.  Brandon Lawley scored 6 points while hauling in 9 rebounds and Brian Jackson scored 6 points while the 6'0" guard played larger than life and grabbed 8 rebounds and dished out 4 assists.  Former Lock Haven University star Denny Mortimer cracked the scoring column with 1 point which means that all 11 Elmira Bulldogs players scored on the evening, 7 of the 11 scored in double figures!!!

"I'm the head coach, but tonight I could not help be a fan", stated Bulldogs head coach & general manager, James R. Schutz.  "The Elmira Bulldogs proved tonight that they are the deepest most talented team in the league and probably the best team in all of minor league basketball outside of a few NBA-D-league teams.  Some minor league teams in the area may be pretenders but we certainly proved we our the contenders."

Louie McCroskey, the former Syracuse University star, led the Hudson Valley Hype in defeat with a game high 37 points scored.

The Elmira Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday, December 19 against Harrisburg Horizon with a 7:05 pm tip-off.  Make sure you come out and cheer on THE ONLY UNDEFEATED PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM IN ELMIRA, NY!!!!!
