ELMIRA BULLDOGS ANNOUNCE THE SIGNING OF TWO STAR PLAYERS, ONE WITH NBA BACKGROUND !!!

The Elmira Bulldogs are pleased to announce the signing of two star player's, Haron Hargrave and Phil Valenti.

Haron Hargrave a 6'0" tall combo guard comes to the Elmira Bulldogs with the most impressive resume of any player in Elmira Bulldogs franchise history.  This Queens, NY native was a star player in college for NCAA D-1 Sacramento State University out of the Big Sky Conference, where his senior year (2006-2007) he averaged 13.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest.

Following his stellar senior season Haron Hargrave excepted a invitation and participated in the 2007 training camp of the Sacramento Kings of the NBA. Hargrave was also one of only 200 participants invited to attend the NBA D-league pre-draft camp (photo included) While Hargrave did not stick in the NBA he did become a force overseas playing in the top division in Romania.  During the 2008-2009 season while playing for the BC Tigru Mures (Romania Div-A) Hargrave averaged 9.3 points per game.  For the 2009-2010 season he will be crossing back over the pond to play for the Elmira Bulldogs of the Eastern Basketball Alliance (EBA).

Phil Valenti a 6'5" shooting guard comes to the Elmira Bulldogs already having an extensive professional basketball background.  This Pittsford, NY native was the Monroe County High School Player of The Year in 2000-2001 while attending Pittsford Sutherland High School.   He was then recruited to play at JUCO national power-house Monroe Community College where he would go on to average 12 points per game as a freshman and 14 points per game his sophomore season while shooting %42 from behind the arc.  He finished up his college career at Hamilton College, where his senior season (2005-2006) he averaged 11.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 3.0 steals per game while shooting %39 from behind the arc.  His 84 steals in 28 games his senior season is still the all-time single season record at Hamilton College.

In 2006-2007 Valenti went pro and played overseas in the IRL Super-league for the Belfast Star averaging 13.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals per contest.  Valenti left Belfast Star part way through the season to return home and play for the Rochester Razorsharks professional basketball team where he helped them to a unbeaten 24-0 record on the season.  During the 2007-2008 season Phil Valenti played for the Syracuse Raging Bullz of the American Basketball Association (ABA) where he averaged 17.4 points per contest with a single game season high of 33 points.

"These signings are a huge step forward for our program" stated bulldogs head coach and general manager, James R. Schutz.  "Hargrave is a player at a NBA skill level and will be teamed up with fellow d-1 college player's such as returning league MVP Aubin Scott and newcomer Brian Jackson, it makes for a very scary nightmare for opposing teams".

In order to make these two signing's possible the Elmira Bulldogs announce the release of Demaija Stewart who would have had to serve a 3 game EBA league imposed suspension to start the 2009-2010 season for a incident involving an EBA official following the 2009 EBA Championship Game.  The release of Peter Lawal who has left to play overseas.  The release of Telron Spell who will be playing the 2009-2010 season for the Connecticut Stallions a new EBA expansion franchise located in Spell's hometown of Stamford, CT.

The Elmira Bulldogs Active roster now stands at 10 players, with 7 out of those 10 player's with experience being in the starting line-up at D-1 or D-2 colleges.  For more information on the Elmira Bulldogs please visit www.elmirabulldogs.com or www.easternbasketballalliance.com

BULLDOGS SPEND MORNING WITH ELMIRA 3RD GRADERS
4dfd0539.jpg
Elmira Bulldog Center and Southside Alum Eric Bresett and Bulldogs Mascot Brutis make a visit to the 3rd grade class of Beecher school in Elmira. The Bulldogs were invited by the school to talk to the students to let them know the importance of reading, writing and Education. Eric explained to the students that he never could had become a Pro Basketball player without a good education. The students are reading a book called "Allies Basketball dream" about a little girl that wants to grow up and be a basketball player. The students are learning that with hard work there is nothing they can't accomplish.
This is just another Community stop for the Bulldogs helping to spread the word of Education and the importance of staying in school. To have a Bulldog player and Brutis visit your school or youth group contact the Bulldogs at 607-331-5960 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

The Elmira Bulldogs fresh off back to back appearences to the league title game, appeared stronger then ever Sunday evening during an exhibtion game at Madison Square Garden.  The Bulldogs took down the New York Wizards 79-63 having never trailed at any point during the game and had a lead as large as 26 points at one time during the second half of the contest.  The game was part of a double header with the WNBA as the New York Liberty defeated the Washington Mystics in the first game of the double header.

The Elmira Bulldogs were led bye defending EBA league MVP Aubin Scott who finished with a game high 34 points.  It was the second time that the New York Wizards had no answer for Aubin Scott as he scored 35 points during a regular season contest against them last season.  "Aubin is a Long Island native who played NCAA D-1 basketball at LIU-Brooklyn.  With the Wizards being based out of Long Island he knows most of their player's so he really gets pumped up to play them", Stated Bulldogs Head Coach & GM James R. Schutz.  Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs was Peter Lawal with 11 points, followed with Telron Spell and Elmira native Eric Bresett with 8 points each.  New comer Brian Jackson scored 7 points while dishing out a team high 8 assists in a strong showing as the team's new starting point guard.  Kenny Gethers scored 6 points, while London England native Demaija Stewart chipped in with 5 points scored.  Mansfield University graduate Brandon Lawley scored 3 points and tied for the team high in rebounds with Peter Lawal with 9 caroms on the evening.  New comer Cameron Arterberry finished with 3 blocked shots and 3 steals while staking his claim as perhaps one of the top defenders in the EBA for this upcoming season.

Coaches Comment :  The trip to New York City was amazing.  We were able to go down with a lot of the team's fans, we were able to take a train and the subway and really get the entire New York City feel.  Madison Square Garden is everything I think we all dreamed it would be, now I can see why they call it the most famous arena in the world.  From myself, Charles Berch (director of operations) and the entire staff and player's we would like to thank the Eastern Basketball Alliance (EBA), Greg Cerillo from the New York Wizards and the WNBA's New York Liberty for making this double header event at Madison Square Garden Possible.  Looking forward to seeing you all at the Elmira Bulldogs regular season opener on Sunday December 13th.  Go Bulldogs ! - James R. Schutz
