ELMIRA BULLDOGS FALL SHORT IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME AT EBA FINAL 4

elmiralogo.jpg

The Elmira Bulldogs (10-2) EBA title hopes fell short as the Delaware Destroyers (11-1) defeated the Elmira Bulldogs for the second straight season in the title game (last season Delaware defeated Elmira in the NPBL title game).  The final score of Sunday's championship game was 115-103 with Delaware pulling it out down the stretch.

The Elmira Bulldogs came out of the gates hot and took a 7 point lead in the 1st quarter but the Delaware Destroyers quickly switched to a zone defense to negate Elmira's offensive attack and it worked.  Delaware took a 64-52 lead into the locker room at half time.  The Elmira Bulldogs fought back hard in the 3rd quarter and came all the way back to take a 2 point lead, the 4th quarter was close right up until the end when Elmira had to start commiting fouls to stop the clock.  A key difference in the game was the Elmira Bulldogs poor foul shooting as the Bulldogs shot 12 for 28 from the free throw line, while another key difference was Elmira Bulldogs starting center 6-foot-8-inch Eric Bresett injuring his hip early in the 2nd quarter after scoring 9 of his 13 points in the 1st quarter of the game.

The Elmira Bulldogs were led in the title game by Telron Spell who finished with 26 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds, while the Bulldogs other star guard Aubin Scott finished with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.  The Elmira Bulldogs double digit scoring was rounded out by Peter Lawal with 18 points, Eric Bresett with 13 points and Henri Buford with 10 points scored.  The Delaware Destroyers team was led by Brian Smith who was named MVP of the EBA Final 4 playoffs.

The Elmira Bulldogs will now look to stay active in the community from now until training camp opens for next season at the start of December.  For more information on the Eastern Basketball Alliance be sure to check out www.easternbasketballalliance.com
