ELMIRA BULLDOGS DROP A HEART BREAKER TO THE WASHINGTON MADNESS 112-110

elmiralogo.jpg
Going into the game it was the unbeaten #1 Elmira Bulldogs vs. the 1 loss #2 Washington Madness and the game lived up to all of the hype and then some.

The Washington Madness did not arrive in Elmira, NY until 8:00pm for what was suppose to be a 7:15pm tip-off.  The Madness came out of the gates flat after limited warm up time and the Bulldogs opened up a good size lead early.  However, it did not take long for the Washington Madness to heat things up to get back into the game by the end of the 1st quarter.  The final 3 quarters of play would be a nip and tuck affair with lead changes happening every few seconds.  The Washington Madness were up by two points with the Bulldogs inbounding from mid-court with 4.1 seconds left in the game, the Bulldogs were able to get the ball into their play maker Aubin Scott who drove to the basket and was tripped up on a questionable no-call to end the game with the final score Washington 112 and Elmira 110.

The Elmira Bulldogs (8-1) were led by former NCAA D-1 Long Island University standout Aubin Scott who finished with a team high 18 points to go along with 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.  Telron Spell scored 16 points for the Bulldogs while grabbing 4 rebounds and dishing out 2 assists.  Former Mansfield University star Brandon Lawley and Bulldogs 6th man Henri Buford finished with 15 points each for Elmira.  The double digit scorers for the Elmira Bulldogs were rounded out by Kenny Gethers and Peter Lawal who both finished with 12 points, Lawal finished with a team high 9 rebounds.  Former Mansfield University standout Kevin Hill just missed double figures in scoring with 9 points, all 9 of the points came in a 6 minute span in the 1st half of the game.

"This was more then just a game, this was two heavy weight fighters going at it for 48 minutes" said Bulldogs Head Coach & General Manager, James R. Schutz.

The Washington Madness (9-1) were led by Ernie Graham Jr. with 22 points, Warren Jeffries with 20 points and former NCAA D-1/ACC Virginia Tech University player Eric Branham finished with 20 points on the evening.

With the loss, the Elmira Bulldogs (8-1) have fallen from #1 in the standings to #3 and will host a home quarterfinal playoff game in Elmira, NY on Sunday March 22nd at 3:00pm from the Chemung County YMCA on Pennsylvania Avenue.  All indications show that the opponent will probably be the Alexandria Avengers who appear to be headed for the #6 and final seed in the 2009 EBA playoffs.  The winner of the game will advance to the EBA Final 4 to be held in Harrisburg, PA on March 28th & 29th.

#1 ELMIRA VS. #2 WASHINGTON ON SATURDAY NIGHT FROM ELMIRA, NY FOR THE EBA REGULAR SEASON TITLE!

elmiralogo.jpg

The EBA has apparently saved the best for last.  On Saturday March 14 2009 live from the Chemung County YMCA on Pennsylvania Avenue the EBA 1st place and undefeated Elmira Bulldogs (8-0) will take on the pride of Washington D.C. better known as the EBA 2nd place Washington Madness (8-1).  This game will mark the end of the 2009 EBA regular season for both teams with the 2009 EBA Regular Season Championship and the 2009 EBA Playoffs #1 seed on the line.

The EBA 2nd place Washington Madness (8-1) team features 6 former NCAA D-1 players including Eric Branham from Virginia Tech University of the mighty ACC conference who leads the Washington Madness team in scoring at 27 points per contest.  The Washington Madness team also features two stars from the world famous And1 mix tape streetball tour that can be viewed on ESPN, they include Prime Objective (Lonnie Harrell) and Baby Shaq (Hugh Jones).  Harrell, played his college basketball at Big East Conference power house Georgetown University before spending two seasons in the NBA D-league.

The EBA 1st place Elmira Bulldogs (8-0) team features the best 1-2 scoring punch in the Eastern Basketball Alliance with back court teammates Aubin Scott and Telron Spell.  Aubin Scott the former NCAA D-1 star from Long Island University averages 24.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals per contest while Telron Spell the former NCAA D-2 star from The University of Bridgeport averages 24.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.0 stelas per contest. The Bulldogs also feature 6th man scoring sensation, Henri Buford who averages 16.0 points per game off the bench.

"This is going to be the biggest regular season game of the 2009 EBA regular season and perhaps the biggest EBA regular season game of all-time", stated Bulldogs Head Coach & General Manager, James R. Schutz.  "How often do you get the chance to close out the regular season with #1 playing #2 in the last game of the regular season?"

Tip-off for Saturday's EBA Regular Season Championship show down is slated for 7:15pm from the Chemung County YMCA on Pennsylvania Avenue in Elmira, NY.  Ticket's will be sold at the door for the low price of $7.00 for adults, $5.00 for seniors, youth and Chemung County YMCA members.
